RTEAN, LASU CHAPEL Lists Achievements During END-OF-YEAR PRAYER GATHERING – 18TH DECEMBER, 2025.
The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), LASU Chapel, on Thursday, 18th December, 2025, successfully held its annual End-of-Year Prayer Gathering, an event designed to give thanks for the outgoing year and to seek divine protection, guidance, and prosperity for members, commuters, and the entire Lagos State University (LASU) community in the year ahead.
The prayer gathering was uniquely inclusive and reflective of Nigeria’s rich religious and cultural diversity. It featured three major spiritual observances:
1. Islamic Prayer Session, during which Muslim members and clerics offered prayers for safety on the roads, unity within the association, and continued peace around the LASU axis.
2. Christian Prayer Session, where Christian leaders committed the association and its activities into God’s hands, praying especially against road accidents, insecurity, and economic hardship.
3. Traditional Observation of “Ogun Ona”, a respected Yoruba cultural rite performed to avert vehicular accidents and mechanical failures. Among the Yoruba people, commercial transportation is traditionally regarded as “Iṣẹ Ogun”—a profession closely associated with Ogun, the African deity of iron and metallurgy. This observation symbolized respect for cultural heritage and reinforced the collective commitment to safety, responsibility, and discipline on the road.
The End-of-Year Prayer Gathering also served as a moment of reflection on the remarkable achievements and positive impact of the executive members of RTEAN, LASU Chapel, whose leadership has significantly transformed transportation, safety, and security around the LASU axis since the establishment of the LASU Chapel Motor Park in 2021.
Notably, the LASU Chapel Motor Park stands as the pioneering and only institutional chapel motor park in the history of commercial transport unions in Nigeria. Since its inception, the executive members have implemented reforms that have drastically improved orderliness, affordability, and security compared to what obtained before 2021.
Their key achievements include:
1. Regular regulation of transport fares to ensure affordability for students, staff, and residents, even during periods of economic pressure.
2. Comprehensive collection of drivers’ data, enhancing accountability and traceability within the transport system.
3. Introduction of ID Cards for drivers and coded security stickers affixed to vehicles, serving as critical tools for identification, monitoring, and crime prevention.
4. Nightly deployment of field workers at the U-Turn close to the LASU main gate from 7:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., providing assistance to vehicles while simultaneously deterring criminal activities and maintaining security in the area.
5. Regular security awareness programmes on LASU Radio 95.7 FM, where safety tips, traffic updates, and public enlightenment messages are shared with the wider community.
RTEAN, LASU Chapel has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), especially toward students and vulnerable groups:
1. Annual scholarships awarded to deserving LASU students, with nominations drawn from the Lagos State University Students’ Union, LASU Muslim Students Association of Nigeria (LASU MSAN), LASU Christian Students Association, and differently-abled students, ensuring inclusivity and fairness.
2. Yearly distribution of over 150 free JAMB forms to prospective tertiary institution candidates, easing financial burdens for families and promoting access to education.
3. Empowerment of petty traders and vendors, who were accommodated and assigned trading spaces within the motor park without any form of charge for several years. Although the management of Arcada Arcade** has recently assumed full control of the space, RTEAN, LASU Chapel maintains a cordial and cooperative relationship with Arcada Arcade management and the vendors, ensuring peaceful coexistence and mutual respect.
The LASU Chapel of RTEAN also plays an important role in human capital development by accommodating young professionals and students:

Despite several calculated attempts by external and internal forces to infiltrate, destabilize, or divide the leadership, the executives have remained steadfast, united, and focused on their shared vision. These attempts have consistently failed due to their strong bond, transparency, and collective commitment to service.
The 18th December 2025 End-of-Year Prayer Gathering was not only a spiritual exercise but also a celebration of progress, responsibility, unity, and service RTEAN, LASU Chapel has proven itself as a model of how transport unions can positively influence safety, education, community development, and peaceful coexistence within an academic environment.
