🇱🇰 Sri Lanka Travel Situation Update — Post Cyclone Ditwah (Dec 2025)
Sri Lanka is steadily recovering from Cyclone Ditwah and recent floods. According to travel authorities, tourism sites, and ongoing local updates, many key destinations are now operating normally and are safe for visitors. Here is the latest status for travelers:
**✅ Areas That Are Open & Easily Accessible**
**🌊 Coastal Tourism (West, South & East Coasts)**
Most beach destinations are fully accessible and functioning:
• Colombo, Negombo, Waikkal
• Bentota, Galle, Unawatuna, Mirissa, Tangalle
• East-coast beaches are also welcoming visitors
Hotels, restaurants, and tour activities are back to normal.
**🏛 Cultural Triangle (Heritage Tourism)**
All major cultural sites remain open:
• Sigiriya Rock Fortress
• Dambulla Cave Temple
• Anuradhapura & Polonnaruwa
• Village cultural tours
Road access and services in these regions are stable and safe.
**🦁 Wildlife Parks (Partially Reopened)**
Many national parks have reopened with safety clearance:
• Udawalawe National Park
• Selected blocks of Yala National Park
• Minneriya & Kaudulla
Safari operations are available where official clearance has been given.
**🛣 Infrastructure**
• Main expressways are functioning normally
• Most major roads are open

**🚂 Train Routes**
The central railway line (Colombo–Kandy–Nanu Oya–Ella–Badulla) remains **suspended**.
