CAB DRIVERS: YOUR VEHICLE IS TALKING ABOUT YOU EVERY SINGLE DAY!
Before a rider rates you, tips you, recommends you, or even says hello, they have already judged you by one thing:

YOUR VEHICLE.
A rider may not know how much you spend on fuel.
A rider may not know how much your insurance costs.
A rider may not know how much you paid for your last service.
But they will immediately notice:
- A bad smell.
- Dusty seats.
- A dirty roof.
- A cluttered boot.
- Dirty seat belts.
- Poor personal hygiene.
- An unprofessional driver.
In this business, cleanliness, safety, and professionalism are not luxuries...they are part of customer service.

BE CAREFUL WHERE YOU WASH YOUR VEHICLE
Not all car washes are your friend.
Some use homemade detergents, harsh chemicals, or rough brushes that can:
- Damage paintwork.
- Fade trims.
- Leave unpleasant smells.
- Cause scratches that reduce your vehicle's value.
Always pay attention to the products and materials being used on your vehicle.
A cheap wash can become an expensive mistake.

INSPECT YOUR VEHICLE DAILY
Professional drivers don't wait for a breakdown.
Before every shift, check:
✅ Coolant level.
✅ Engine oil.
✅ Brake fluid.
✅ Tire pressure.
✅ Tire condition.
✅ Lights and indicators.
✅ Windshield wipers.
A 5-minute inspection can save you thousands of shillings and prevent accidents.

SERVICE ON TIME
Skipping service may save money today but cost you an engine tomorrow.
Routine servicing:
✅ Improves fuel economy.
✅ Reduces breakdowns.
✅ Improves safety.
✅ Extends vehicle life.
Your vehicle feeds your family. Treat it like a business asset.

AVOID FLOODED ROADS DURING THE RAINY SEASON
Floodwater is one of the fastest ways to destroy a vehicle.
It can damage:
❌ The engine.
❌ The transmission.
❌ Electrical systems.
❌ Brakes.
No fare is worth losing an engine.
If in doubt, turn around.

KEEP THE ENGINE BAY CLEAN
You don't need to flood the engine with water.
A dry cloth can remove dust and dirt effectively.
A clean engine bay makes it easier to spot leaks and developing problems.

KEEP THE VEHICLE SMELLING FRESH
A quality vehicle perfume costs as little as Ksh 200 in many supermarkets.
A fresh-smelling vehicle creates comfort and leaves a lasting impression.
Many riders decide whether they like the trip within the first few seconds of entering your vehicle.

NO FOOD, NO MESS
Avoid eating inside your vehicle.
Food crumbs attract cockroaches and other insects.
Politely discourage passengers from eating inside the vehicle as well.

OPEN DRINKS ARE A RISK
Passengers should be discouraged from carrying:
☕ Open coffee cups
🥤 Open soft drinks
🍺 Alcoholic drinks in open containers
🥛 Yoghurt and similar beverages
One pothole.
One emergency brake.
One sharp corner.
And your seats, carpets, and door panels are ruined.

NO SMOKING INSIDE THE VEHICLE
Smoking leaves strong odors that many passengers dislike.
Protect your ratings by maintaining a strict no-smoking policy.

SAFETY FIRST, ALWAYS
Politely discourage behavior that distracts the driver.
Excessive kissing, inappropriate touching, or other distractions inside the vehicle can reduce concentration and increase accident risk.
Your responsibility is to keep everyone safe.

DON'T OVERLOAD YOUR VEHICLE
It doesn't matter how much extra money is offered.
Never carry more passengers than your vehicle is designed to transport.
Safety is worth more than any fare.

SEAT BELTS SAVE LIVES
Encourage every rider to buckle up.
And don't forget:
✅ Clean seat belts.
✅ Functional seat belts.
✅ Accessible seat belts.
Safety starts before the trip begins.

YOUR PERSONAL HYGIENE MATTERS TOO
A clean car with an untidy driver sends mixed signals.
Before every shift:
✅ Take a shower.
✅ Wear clean clothes.
✅ Wear proper closed shoes.
✅ Avoid vests and slippers while working.
✅ Maintain fresh breath.
Many passengers enjoy sitting in the front seat and having conversations with drivers.
Make that experience pleasant.

AVOID UNNECESSARY PHONE CALLS
Passengers appreciate a driver who is focused on the road.
Keep personal calls to a minimum while driving.

KEEP THE CABIN CLEAN
Politely discourage activities that may stain or damage the interior, including applying products that can spill onto seats, carpets, or door panels.

DON'T FORGET THE BOOT
Your boot should be as clean as your cabin.
Passengers place luggage, shopping bags, and valuables there.
A clean boot reflects a professional driver.

THE TRUTH ABOUT THIS BUSINESS
Passengers may forget your name.
Passengers may forget your vehicle registration number.
Passengers may even forget the route.
But they will never forget:
✅ How clean your vehicle was.
✅ How fresh it smelled.
✅ How safe they felt.
✅ How professional you were.

A clean vehicle earns trust.
A maintained vehicle earns income.
A safe vehicle protects lives.
A professional driver earns respect.

CAB DRIVERS, WHO IS PROTECTING YOUR DATA?
Every day, thousands of online cab drivers enter estates to pick up or drop off residents.
Yet some estates demand:
- Photos of your vehicle
-Copies of both sides of your ID
-Your phone number
- Additional personal details

Let's ask a simple question:
If the rider has already requested the trip, the app has verified the driver, the vehicle registration is visible, CCTV cameras are recording, and security guards are present...
Why is all this additional personal information necessary?

We support security.
But security should not come at the expense of privacy.
The Constitution of Kenya under Article 31 protects every person's right to privacy, while the Data Protection Act requires organizations collecting personal information to explain why they need it, how it will be used, and how it will be protected.

As drivers, we rarely ask:
- Who owns this data after I give it out?
- Is it stored digitally or in a notebook?
- Who can access it?
- What happens if it falls into the wrong hands?
- Has anyone audited how this information is handled?

Many drivers hand over sensitive information every day without knowing where it ends up.
The reality is that personal data is valuable.

In the wrong hands, it can be used for:
⚠️ Identity fraud
⚠️ Impersonation scams
⚠️ Unwanted marketing and spam
⚠️ Financial fraud attempts
⚠️ Criminal profiling and targeting

Cab drivers are among the most tracked professionals in Kenya. The apps know who we are. The vehicles are registered. Trips are recorded. Locations are tracked. CCTV cameras are running.
So why are some estates still demanding more and more personal information from drivers who are simply doing their jobs?

A vehicle registration number and a quick identity confirmation should be enough for most short pickups and drop-offs.

Drivers, stop normalizing the unnecessary collection of your personal data.
Ask questions.
Demand transparency.
Protect your information.
Because once your data leaves your hands, you may never know where it goes.

🛑 Security is important.
🛑 Privacy is a right.
🛑 Respect for cab drivers is non-negotiable.

If you believe drivers deserve dignity, privacy, and fair treatment, share this message until it reaches every estate (Tatu City unity west, Nyayo estate, Membly).... manager, security company, and cab drivers in Kenya.

CAB DRIVERS, ARE WE PREPARING FOR WHAT IS COMING?

Everyone is talking about low fares, high fuel prices, commissions, and taxes. But are we discussing the bigger picture?

Reports suggest thousands of EVs could enter the market in the coming years. Kenya already has tens of thousands of ride-hailing drivers competing for the same customers. If more vehicles enter the market while demand remains the same, what happens to driver earnings?

Many drivers are servicing loans. Many vehicle owners are struggling with daily targets. Yet every day more drivers join the platforms while fares continue to face pressure.

Maybe the problem is bigger than Bolt, Uber, Little, or any single app. Maybe we should also be talking about fuel prices, taxation, regulation, and the overall cost of doing business in Kenya.

When costs keep rising but fares don't, who carries the burden?

The driver.

As drivers, we need to become more organized, more informed, and more involved in conversations about the future of our industry. The decisions being made today will affect our livelihoods tomorrow.

My question to fellow captains:

If the number of drivers and vehicles keeps increasing while earnings continue shrinking, what does the future of ride-hailing in Kenya look like?

Let's discuss.

STOP SCROLLING, CAPTAIN!

Everyone wants change in the ride-hailing industry.

Everyone complains about low fares.
Everyone complains about suspensions.
Everyone complains about commissions.
Everyone complains about driver welfare.

But the question is:

WHO IS READY TO LEAD THE CHANGE?

OCDNKE is looking for passionate, honest, and visionary drivers to volunteer for a one-year leadership term in the following positions:

✅ Chairperson
✅ Secretary
✅ Treasurer
✅ Welfare Team Members

We are looking for drivers who believe in:
✔ Transparency
✔ Accountability
✔ Unity
✔ Driver Empowerment
✔ Real Solutions, Not Just Complaints

Interested?

Record a short video introducing yourself and tell us:
• Who you are
• Your driving experience
• The position you are applying for
• What changes you would champion for drivers

📍 We are also recruiting DDO Unit Ward Representatives in all Nairobi wards.

If you are ready to represent drivers in your ward, simply DM the Admin with your ward details.

The future of this industry will not be changed by spectators.

It will be changed by drivers who are willing to stand up, step forward, and serve.

If not you, then who?
If not now, then when?

Tag a driver who has leadership qualities and should apply.

FATIGUE IS KILLING MORE DRIVERS THAN BAD ROADS

A driver can spot a pothole.
A driver can avoid a traffic jam.
A driver can report a suspicious passenger.

But fatigue is different.

It creeps in silently after 10, 12, or even 16 hours on the road chasing trips, bonuses, and daily targets. One second of microsleep is enough to change a life forever.

The ride-hailing industry talks about ratings, acceptance rates, and customer experience. But how often do we talk about driver rest?

A tired driver is not a lazy driver.

A tired driver is often a hardworking father, mother, husband, wife, or young person trying to make ends meet.

To every online cab driver today:

🔹 Take a break when you need one.
🔹 Drink water.
🔹 Stretch.
🔹 Rest when your body says rest.

The trip you reject today could save the life you live tomorrow.

Your family is waiting for you at home.

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU CAN'T DRIVE TOMORROW?

Most cab drivers spend years chasing trips, bonuses, and daily targets.

But here's a question many of us avoid:
If you were unable to drive tomorrow, what would sustain you and your family?

The reality is that driving puts food on the table, but it should also help us build something beyond the road.

A small biashara. A savings plan. A new skill. An investment. A side hustle.
Something that continues working even when you're not behind the wheel.

As cab drivers, we often talk about fares, commissions, and challenges in the industry. Those conversations are important. But we must also start talking about wealth creation, financial discipline, and economic empowerment.

Imagine a network where drivers don't just share complaints and updates, but also support each other's businesses, create opportunities, and grow together.

The strongest cab driver is not the one who completes the most trips today.
The strongest driver is the one preparing for tomorrow.

LEADERSHIP VACANCY: IS OCDNKE FACING A CRISIS?
The online cab industry has produced all kinds of people.

There are those who are focused, determined, and willing to take risks to improve the industry. They understand that meaningful change requires sacrifice, responsibility, and consistent effort. From our observations, this group makes up less than 5% of the industry. They are often the ones willing to volunteer, organize, mobilize, and carry responsibility when everyone else is waiting.

There are also those who have been disappointed before. They have witnessed broken promises, failed leadership, and movements that started with hope but ended in frustration. As a result, they no longer follow blindly. They believe in results, accountability, and actions that speak louder than words. This group forms the majority of drivers today. They are not necessarily against change; they are simply waiting to see evidence before committing their trust again.

Then there is a smaller group, probably less than 10%, that tends to follow personalities rather than principles. They defend what benefits them, dismiss opposing views without examining the facts, and rarely question decisions from those they support. While every movement has such individuals, they should never determine the direction of an entire industry.

The truth is that all these perspectives exist within our industry, and each one has been shaped by experience.

Today, OCDNKE faces a challenge that cannot be ignored.

Our Constitution requires members to democratically elect leaders to the Executive Office and Welfare Team. Leadership is meant to come from the members and serve the members.

Yet despite having over 800+ members, not a single person has formally stepped forward to contest for these positions.

This raises an important question.
Everyone wants representation.
Everyone wants accountability.
Everyone wants leaders who cannot be compromised.
Everyone wants a stronger voice for drivers.
But who is willing to take on the responsibility?

Many members have genuine concerns:
❓ Will future leaders repeat the mistakes that have disappointed drivers before?
❓ Will they remain loyal to the interests of drivers when challenges arise?
❓ Will they put service above personal gain?
❓ Can they be trusted to build something sustainable for the long term?

These are fair questions, and they deserve honest answers.

At the same time, there is another question that deserves equal attention:
If nobody is willing to step forward, who will carry the responsibility of leading?

OCDNKE cannot remain stagnant forever waiting for the perfect moment, the perfect leader, or the perfect solution.

The discussion now is whether we should continue waiting for members to apply for elective positions, or whether willing admin team volunteers should temporarily take responsibility, establish structures, coordinate activities, and keep the organization moving forward while still encouraging democratic elections and leadership transition when members are ready.

This is not about individuals.
It is not about positions.
It is not about titles.
It is about ensuring that drivers have representation, organization, and a united voice at a time when the industry needs it most.

OCDNKE now stands at an important crossroads.
The future of this movement will not be determined by a few admins, a few critics, or a few volunteers. It will be determined by the collective decisions of drivers themselves.

OCDNKE does not belong to the admin team. It does not belong to a few individuals. It belongs to all cab drivers. If members want accountable leadership, then members must also participate in building that leadership.

The question is simple:
What do you believe is the best way forward for OCDNKE?
