I managed to loose this little review from early last year. Not being too bright I was baffled as to why we have different numbers of reviews on different pages. Turns out we have 4 pages on the go between Viator and Tripadvisor. I will hopefully sort this out in the next 3 or 4 years🙂. I did respond when I found the review.

A copy of a wee note Jass passed on today. Jass and I are having a wee competition to see who wears the neatest suit at Greenock.
I did not meet him at the port on this particular date but he is looking quite sharp. Most certainly a chap I can rely on. Ta Jass 🙂

A wee copy of the review we received today from Laura who was the lead passenger in a group of 6. We can trust Jass to deliver a relaxed pleasant journey. As admin it is our job to look after our customers booking shore excursions from Greenock and Jass delivered again. 3 / 4/ 6 seaters, give us a shout for a great day out . (I just thought that up myself 🙂.)
"Thank you Barry; we had the most wonderful day! The restaurant you suggested for lunch could not have been more perfect, and now, we are all huge fans of haggis! Jass was fantastic, and could not have been more accommodating. My husband and I are already trying to plan a longer stay in your beautiful country of such graciousness and kindness. Arriving at Glasgow & Greenock Cruise terminal.
😕Day tour pricing and descriptions can be confusing . Looking at some sites it can be difficult to decipher what you are paying for.
In the simplest of terms when coming off a cruise ship you have 4 alternatives if you want to do an organised tour .
Private Tours Ships tours , Coach Tours & Small Group Tours

Private Tours will be for 1 to 8 passengers . As the title suggests, normally family or friends, travelling together, who want to follow their own itinerary. The cost is normally advertised as "per vehicle" or "per group".
Probably a little dearer per person if travelling with 1 to 4 people . When you are travelling with 5 to 8 people you will generally find the price is favourable.
The big advantage is you control the route and the sites you visit.
Prior to your arrival your tour provider will give you ideas and suggestions to suit your interests and you can customise your tour from those suggestions.
You can have a hectic day, cramming in as many sites as you can or you can have a laid back day, allowing time for leisurely visits , a lazy lunch or adapting on the day if the weather should be bad or particularly favourable.

Ships tours : organised from your cruise company with the comfort blanket that provides.
Tour numbers can be from 6 to 52 people .
A set schedule round the most popular tourist attractions.
The main advantage of this type of tour is peace of mind.
If your tour should be late on returning to the port and you miss the ship ,the cruise company has taken responsibility for your onward travel to catch up with it.
Disadvantages are the tours are keeping to a strict schedule and attendance times at locations.
30 minutes, Loch Lomond , 60 minutes Stirling Castle and at times the feeling of being herded on and off the coach .

Coach tours generally would range from 16 to 52 people.
Probably a bit cheaper per person than the ship tours.
The companies that operate out of Greenock are well versed in getting you from and to the cruise terminal on time but you do not have the comfort blanket of it being an official ships tour.

Small Group Tours
This is where it starts to get confusing.
A Small Group tour can involve anything from 6 to 16 passengers .
When booking you will probably see a "per person" price quoted.
These tours will likely be shared with other cruise passengers. On the odd occasion, you can find that only your party or indeed ,only you are booked on that particular tour and if this happens you have struck it lucky.A "private" tour for a great price.
Normally a set route , with set times at each attraction. If you don't mind being allocated time slots at each venue this can be a great way to access a reliable company with a reliable guide at a good price. Again the disadvantage can be the feeling of "being herded " from site to site.

However you decide to tour from Greenock & Glasgow Ocean Terminal you have the makings of a great day. History , architecture, whisky, shopping and cuisine that varies from the sublime to the unusual are all available .

We have created this page to promote our services and where we can, to provide advice , suggestions and assistance to travellers arriving at Greenock Cruise Terminal.
We will also add some comments to try and answer frequently asked questions relating to arriving and touring from Greenock.
Frequently , one of the first questions asked by anyone coming to any port is ,"is it safe ?"
We are required by some sort of protocol to first state that all forms of travelling carry risks and you should use common sense wherever you travel.
We can now answer the question directly.
In our opinion Greenock Port is as safe a port as anywhere on the planet.
The Cruise terminal is purpose built . You will disembark down the access ramp and be met by a throng of people as anywhere else in the world.🙂
As you walk into the exit hallway you will see the local volunteers ,who are in uniform ,and will provide fantastic assistance if you wish to spend your day in Greenock itself.
They can direct you to local museums , local leisure facilities , public transport and restaurants.🙂
Exiting the main hallway you will see a myriad of vehicles .
You will see people in kilts, suits , casual uniforms, all holding name boards , generally misbehaving and having a banter with each other. These are the pre booked private and small group tour guides . If you have prebooked your tour have a wee look about for the company name and your name on a board. If you do not see your particular guide ask any one of them and they will point you in the right direction if they can.🙂
You will also hear the cry "Taxi , local taxis".
You will see the taxi marshall and a fleet of "Inverclyde" taxis.
These taxis are licensed by the local authority and will take you to anywhere you wish to go.
2024 taxi rate for a saloon car tour was £45 per hour and for a 7 or 8 seater £65 per hour. We are not aware of the pricing for 2025. 🙂
The prices between a private bespoke tour and a taxi 'off the rank' for an 8 hour day can be comparable . Please note you can not access the services of a chauffeur private tour unless you have pre booked. (Local licensing laws).
