Coach Convoy By the age of 14 I had lived in 100 places. I'm settled now and want to give something back. Everything is going toward Sandicliffe 4 Kidz.

My name is Terry and I was brought up in various children and foster homes and when I was 9 was taken to see the Blackpool lights by the Manchester cabbies in a convoy of around 100 taxis. On 8th June 2012 we are organising 7 coaches departing from our motor dealerships in Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire. These coaches will all meet up at a central location before leaving in convoy to Alton Tow

ers with kidz from children and foster homes on board. We will be fundraising in all 10 of our dealerships over the next 4 months for this event. That coach convoy to Blackpool is something that will always be with me. I felt special, people cared. The taxi's were decorated in tinsel and had fairy lights. And we even had a police es**rt. This event is about passing that feeling on so that these children can have their own special day. And who knows maybe one day a child from this convoy may do something similar.

I'm on a bit of a mission an recently met the Children's Minister... Edward Timpson... In short we have created a Leaving Car Charter which all the Local Authorities have been asked to sign up to... Nottingham County Council were the first to sigh up and I was their to witness the signing and to have a chat with the Minister... Thankfully, I really have a good feeling that he genuinely cares.... his parents fostered over 90 kids and he really is passionate about getting things sorted... I've had a chat with him and his aids and we are hopefully going to meet up in the new year for a full and frank discussion on the subject with some action points at the end... I've got a good feeling about this.... after speaking with him... I think he actually cares !

People, participants, fundraisers, supporters...
I've changed the name of this page to Convoy 4 Kidz...
the reason being is that when the convoy happens again... it's prime sponsor will have it's names first.

I am so greatfull to Sandicliffe Motor Group, especially Tom Barton and Reg Tutt for their support in making the last convoy a dream come true....

I know most who took part got some serious pleasure and some fantastic experiences... some of the comments I received were fantastic.... the one that resonates most for me is;
These are just normal kids.... you can't tell the difference, as they walked into the dealerships I expected to be able to tell the kid that were in care.... I could not... it brought a tear to my eye when I saw kids of 3,4,5 and 6 who were in care... we need to do more....

Thank you everyone for your part in making the first of many events such a success... It will never be forgotten...

No matter what is said, every time I appear on the TV or Radio I will always mention how Sandiclifffe helped in this fantastic event... Well done to everyone at Sandicliffe... A BIG THANK YOU - FROM ALL THE KIDS IN CARE YOU HELPED

Quick update folks...

Since the event I've been developing a few things...

I held a presentation yesterday in Leicester with RS Fleet installations, Leicestershire Cares, Conexions and some 15-18 year old kids who were in care or have just left. We went through an apprenticeship scheme and it went down really well.

We will be recruiting 5 of them in this first phase and the opportunity will set the kids up for life...!

They will all get put through their driving tests, given really smart uniforms, a branded fiesta van, ipads, real meaningful qualifications and will have a guaranteed job with the biggest telematics installer in the UK in one of the fastest growing industries.

Lea the MD of RS Fleet installations has said if this pilot goes well, he wants us to take it nationwide. He knows that if you give young people an opportunity then they are so much more likely to become loyal to the company. And he has also told me to make no mistake, this is not just about giving these kids a chance.... Its about future proofing his business...in all, over the next 3 years he needs at least 300 apprentices covering the whole of the UK.

The interviews take place next week in Birmingham and I just hope that of the 14 we have put forward we manage to fill the 5 places Lea committed.

If this goes well then we will have a model and a bench mark to bring other companies on and take the concept nationwide!
