About us
As our incoming Chair of Trustees, you will play a vital role in the governance and strategic direction of Arun Community Transport, a not for profit charity which operates within the Arun district, predominately Littlehampton, Rustington and East Preston and relies on volunteers and funding from local government, charitable grants and the support of our users with a small membership fee (Currently £10.00 per year) .
Trustees are responsible for ensuring that the charity is effectively managed and fulfils its objectives in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements.
The charity uses volunteer drivers and volunteer office staff to provides a safe and reliable door-to-door community transport service in an environmentally responsible way for the residents of the Arun district of West Sussex and environs who need such a service due to age, illness, disability (mental or physical) or financial hardship, regardless of race, nationality, gender or sexual orientation.
We currently have more than 1000 members registered to use the service and on average undertake 150 trips a week. Our service predominately provides accessible and affordable transport for hospital and medical appointments, but we also transport residents to day care activities such as dementia and rehabilitation sessions, visits to family members, friends residing in care and residential homes, shopping and social trips.
What we are looking for
We are looking for a Chair to join the Board of Trustees Arun Community Transport. Someone who has a passion for community transport, an understanding of governance and excellent financial acumen and experience of strong leadership.

Knowledge, skills and experience required
• To have an understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of the Board of Trustees and be prepared to access information and training to develop this
• To be committed to Nolan’s Seven Principles of Public Life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty, and leadership
• To be able to operate strategically and to work effectively with the Board of Trustees and senior manager to develop the strategic vision for the organisation
• To have leadership skills for both leadership of the Board of Trustees and the organisation
• To have an understanding, knowledge or experience of key areas ( the voluntary sector, NHS and local government, business development) that will support the charity
• To have an understanding and commitment to equality, equity, and inclusion in line with our strategic objective to work towards becoming an Anti-Racist, Anti Discriminatory organisation
