Come along to Pride in Place this Saturday. Arun Community Transport will be there to discus our volunteer car service and also our volunteering opportunities. Make a difference in our local community.

We’re looking for local residents to help shape the future of Wick and Toddington.

A new Neighbourhood Board and community champions group will help decide how £20 million of Pride in Place funding is spent in the area.

No experience needed, just your local knowledge, ideas and passion for your community.

Arun Community Transport (ACT) is looking for a voluntary Chairperson to join our Board of Trustees. Across our 24 towns and parishes, our drivers are more than transport — they're a lifeline for many elderly and disabled residents.

We're a friendly, small charity with big ambitions. This is an exciting time to join us as we welcome a new CEO and enter a period of growth and change. We're seeking an experienced, compassionate leader to provide strategic direction and support our CEO.

The role:

Arun Community Transport wishes to advise its members that the service will be closed over the Easter Holidays. Our offices will close at 12.30pm on Thursday 2nd April 2026 and reopen at 09.00am on Tuesday 7th April 2026 .

Vacancy - Chairperson/Trustee voluntary role
We are now seeking a Chairperson to join the board of trustees and support the next phase of our development.
As Chairperson, you will provide strategic leadership to the Board of Trustees and ensure strong governance, accountability and long-term sustainability. Working closely with fellow Trustees and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), you will help shape the charity’s future direction while maintaining appropriate oversight and support.
We are looking for an entrepreneurial, experienced and transparent leader with a track record of working either as a trustee or board level leader in the public or private sector. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to shape the future of an organisation that makes a tangible difference every single day.
The Chairperson does not manage day-to-day operations but works in partnership with the CEO to ensure clarity of strategy, accountability and long-term impact. We anticipate a minimum of 2 days per month for the role on a voluntary basis.

Arun Community Transport (ACT) exists for one simple but powerful reason: without accessible transport, people become isolated. ACT has a crucial role in helping improve the lives of residents across 24 Towns and Parishes that make up the Arun District.
We are now seeking a part-time CEO to lead the next phase of our development. We are looking for an entrepreneurial, dynamic and empathetic leader with a strong track record of delivery. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to shape the future of an organisation that makes a tangible difference every single day.
This is a hands-on leadership role in a small but ambitious organisation. You will need to be both strategic and operational. This role will be for an initial a 12-month fixed terms period however there may be an option to extend subject to the successful application and granting of funding.

Advert: Chair for Board of Trustees
About us

As our incoming Chair of Trustees, you will play a vital role in the governance and strategic direction of Arun Community Transport, a not for profit charity which operates within the Arun district, predominately Littlehampton, Rustington and East Preston and relies on volunteers and funding from local government, charitable grants and the support of our users with a small membership fee (Currently £10.00 per year) .
Trustees are responsible for ensuring that the charity is effectively managed and fulfils its objectives in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements.
The charity uses volunteer drivers and volunteer office staff to provides a safe and reliable door-to-door community transport service in an environmentally responsible way for the residents of the Arun district of West Sussex and environs who need such a service due to age, illness, disability (mental or physical) or financial hardship, regardless of race, nationality, gender or sexual orientation.
We currently have more than 1000 members registered to use the service and on average undertake 150 trips a week. Our service predominately provides accessible and affordable transport for hospital and medical appointments, but we also transport residents to day care activities such as dementia and rehabilitation sessions, visits to family members, friends residing in care and residential homes, shopping and social trips.
What we are looking for
We are looking for a Chair to join the Board of Trustees Arun Community Transport. Someone who has a passion for community transport, an understanding of governance and excellent financial acumen and experience of strong leadership.
With the rise of public support and awareness of our services, combined with the charity’s strong growth and financial stability, this role offers a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate. I
f you feel you can make a real difference to the services we provide to local people and shape our strategic direction for the future; this role will be a great fit.

Knowledge, skills and experience required
• To have an understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of the Board of Trustees and be prepared to access information and training to develop this
• To be committed to Nolan’s Seven Principles of Public Life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty, and leadership
• To be able to operate strategically and to work effectively with the Board of Trustees and senior manager to develop the strategic vision for the organisation
• To have leadership skills for both leadership of the Board of Trustees and the organisation
• To have an understanding, knowledge or experience of key areas ( the voluntary sector, NHS and local government, business development) that will support the charity
• To have an understanding and commitment to equality, equity, and inclusion in line with our strategic objective to work towards becoming an Anti-Racist, Anti Discriminatory organisation

Arun Community Transport is looking to recruit someone to manage our day-to-day operations across the Arun District in the role of a Service Manager.

ACT is a voluntary organisation that provides transport services to those who cannot easily access public transport. We ensure residents can attend vital appointments like doctors, hospitals, and dentists. We also reduce social exclusion by taking people to clubs, shopping, hairdressers, or visiting friends and family.

We are looking for someone to coordinate our service and lead our staff and volunteers in the daily operations of our charity.

We'd love to hear from you if you are an enthusiastic, well-organised person who wants to make a difference in our community by supporting our service growth.

Hours: 25 hours a week,
8.30am to 1.30 pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday

Salary: £29,233 PA Equivalent) Pro Rata £19,752

Base: Office based in our Dove Lodge Community Resource Centre office, but flexible working would be needed to cover meetings.
