IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR TRANSPORT OPERATORS 🚛

DVSA is going digital! From 18 June 2025, prohibition notifications will be sent by EMAIL instead of post (if you have an email address on your Operator Licence).

What this means:
✅ Faster notifications via email
✅ Same detailed information as before
✅ More environmentally friendly process
✅ Physical prohibitions still given at roadside
✅ Clearance notices still posted

Make sure your contact details are up to date on your Operator License.

Dear Operators

To prevent issues with brake testing, please refer to the attached guidance document. The basic rule is this: if a laden RBT is not performed at every inspection, a competent person must complete a risk assessment. Risk assessments are valid for 12 months unless there is a change in the vehicle’s use or condition, in which case a new assessment must be carried out.

Be cautious of unintentional overloading—submitting a vehicle for RBT without proper load can trigger an "insufficient load axle..." warning. In such cases, the test will not be valid, as a risk assessment cannot be applied retrospectively.

🚛 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻?

The Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness (April 2025) makes it clear: if you’re not carrying out a laden roller brake test (RBT), you need a good reason—and it must be documented by a competent person through a formal risk assessment.

Too many operators still treat unladen brake testing as a routine workaround. It’s not. It’s an exception—and one that needs to stand up to DVSA scrutiny.

In our latest article, we explore:
✅ What qualifies as a “good reason”
✅ The role of the competent person
✅ What a risk assessment really needs to cover
✅ Why this matters more than ever for your OCRS and compliance
