Rediscover the Island Magic ✨

As part of our 175-year celebrations, we’re delighted to share another island story.

This one comes from Ken — thank you for sharing your memories with us.

In 1982, Ken arrived at Craignure on Mull to join his parents for a family holiday. The happiness of those days stayed with him, and years later, he returned with his own wife and four sons, passing on the joy of the islands to the next generation.

“Loved holidays with my parents and now with my own family on Mull.”

Some places become part of your family story — treasured over generations.

Where will your next journey take you? 🩵

‘Where the Sea Meets the Road’ exhibition opens at Museum & Tasglann nan Eilean Stornoway, on 23 May 2026 🚢

This year marks 175 years since the roots of Caledonian MacBrayne were first established, and the exhibition plays an important role in marking the milestone date.

Developed by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar Heritage Team, with extensive support from Caledonian MacBrayne, the exhibition will celebrate the generations of people who have worked on the delivery of our ferry services and the vital role they’ve played in island life throughout this period.

The exhibition centres on the personal collection of our colleague, John Macdonald – Port Assistant at Lochmaddy, who has spent 50 years and more collecting and preserving items and memorabilia which speak to the rich history of Caledonian MacBrayne and our predecessors.
