Essential maintenance is being carried out on the M8 starting from Monday 7 March for 12 weeks, Transport Scotland have advised.

The works will take place between junctions 30 and 31 (Erskine, Bishopton and Langbank) and there be be traffic management will be in place 24/7 to allow day and night working.

The majority of works will be carried out during the day by closing an offside lane in both west and eastbound directions.

Overnight works will take place on 7 to 8 March, 16 to 18 March and 21 to 22 March, subject to the weather.

The central reserve barrier will be upgraded and existing structures protected to improve safety and decrease the risk of incident or injury.

A temporary barrier will be put in place as the existing centre barrier will be removed and a temporary 40mph speed limit will be in effect throughout the duration of the works.

I've been talking with representatives of the local Polish community in Renfrewshire over the weekend about the collections they are doing across Scotland for the Ukrainian people, these donations are then sent by van to Poland for onward distribution to those in need.

I then had a further chat with Gavin Newlands MP about this today and he has agreed that his office at 57 Hairst Street in Renfrew can be used as a local drop off point for donations which should hopefully take some of the pressure off volunteers picking up donations.

Gavin's office is open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday though will be closed on Thursday of this week. Can I ask that donations be bagged if possible and that masks be worn where possible when dropping off?

The items identified as urgently required are as follows:

- Formula, Baby food (preferably pouches/that don’t need a spoon), Nappies, Wet wipes, baby bottles/dummies (unused), Sudocrem, Buggies/prams

- Colouring books (for children and teenagers) and colour pencils/sharpeners/pens

- Breast pads, Sanitary products

- Bars of soap, Shampoos/conditioners, Roll on/Deodorant (for men and women)

- Medication ie painkillers (for adults and children), pain relief gels, anti-inflammatory tablets, cough medicines, stuffy/runny nose medicines

- First aid kits including bandages, plasters, blister plasters

- Phones (old but working) with chargers, Power banks (charged)

- Torches (with batteries), and batteries (a variety)

- Tinned food, protein bars, bars of chocolate, sweets, tea/coffee, flasks (which can be securely closed to keep the temp for long)

- Sleeping bags (clean)

- Mobility equipment ie crutches, wheelchairs

FARE INCREASE –

We would like to inform our customers that we have implemented a fare increase. This is not a decision we have taken lightly but due to continuous price increases in running costs, fuel etc for the drivers we feel this is not only fair but unfortunately necessary.

We really do appreciate the constant support we have received from the public, and have tried to keep fares as low as possible.

The new fares will be as follows –

1st mile - Β£4.00
Each mile thereafter - Β£1.50
