In the true spirit of Freemasonry, Crescamus Lodge, No. 7776 was born through Croydon Freemasons coming together. Masons from throughout Croydon thought that it would be beneficial for another Lodge to meet in the area. After careful consideration, the name Crescamus was chosen as it was included on the crest of the Borough of Croydon. The Lodge was duly consecrated on 23rd October 1961, and 139 M
asons attended the consecration. Of these, 16 were Founder members of the Lodge (out of 17 Founders altogether) and 12 were Consecrating Officers who were made Honorary Members of the Lodge. The rest were guests from other Lodges. In 2011, we celebrated our 50th anniversary and the Lodge continues to go from strength to strength. The Lodge, its members, and their families are very proud of its history and tradition and enjoy many memorable times together, both in and out of the Lodge. Our Lodge is old enough to have traditions which we enjoy and yet young enough not to be swamped by them. The ages of our members range from their 20’s to nearly 90, so there is no doubt that you will find someone you have something in common with! We have members from all different backgrounds. Some work in the building trades, railways, others in insurance and property. We also have an accountant, a postman, a mortgage broker, people in computing, a taxi driver, and many others. Crescamus Lodge members generally live in and around Croydon and surrounding areas including Addiscombe, Beckenham, Bromley, Carshalton, Coulsdon, Crystal Palace, Kenley, Purley, New Addington, Norbury, Selhurst, Shirley, South Norwood, Sutton and West Wickham.
