Canadian truck drivers work harder than American truck drivers. For example, driving from Toronto to Vancouver means dealing with two-way traffic in Ontario for over 1,000 miles, harsh winter conditions, and poor rest areas. Canada has very few truck stops, limited parking, and most gas stations in Ontario and BC are dirty—making it almost impossible to take a proper shower.

Another issue is that Canada uses the metric system, yet trucking companies still pay drivers per mile instead of per kilometer. This system is a scam because it unfairly reduces drivers’ earnings. Trucking companies make most of the money while paying drivers less, even though drivers take on 80% of the work and responsibilities.

I’ve been a truck driver for three years, working for four different companies, and I have never seen fairness in this industry. Trucking companies only care about their profits, not about drivers’ well-being. I hope that one day this will change, but for now, no one seems to care about drivers.

What do Georgians have to be proud of? Who are we Georgians, what have we contributed to the world, and why do we consider ourselves superior to others?

1. Human Remains: The remains of a human, approximately 1.8 million years old, were discovered in Dmanisi, Georgia, in 1991. These are the oldest human remains found in Europe. Georgians are considered to be among the origins of the Caucasian (white) race.
2. Georgia is the birthplace of wine and viticulture, as supported by historical, archaeological, ethnographic materials, and literary sources. During excavations in the Kvemo Kartli region, grape seeds dating back to the 7th-6th millennia BC were discovered. Additionally, a wine cellar from the Eneolithic period was found on Georgian territory. Georgia has over 500 grape varieties.
3. Georgia is also the birthplace of wheat. There are 27 species of wheat in the world, 23 of which are cultivated. Out of these 23, 14 are Georgian wheat species. These Georgian wheat species possess unique qualities such as resistance to frost, drought tolerance, and stable yields.
4. Georgian archaeologists discovered a burial mound (kurgan) near the village of Sakire in the Borjomi district at the base of Mount Kodiani, dating back to the mid-third millennium BC. During the excavation, two jars of honey were found, which predate the famous honey in Tutankhamun’s tomb by almost 1,400 years. The kurgan is approximately 5,500 years old.
5. The oldest known thread was made from nettle and found in the Czech Republic, estimated to be 29,000 years old. However, in Georgia, particles of flax, clearly twisted by human hands, were discovered in a layer dating back 32,000 years.
6. Out of over 7,000 languages in the world, only 14 scripts exist. One of these 14 is Georgian (fifth oldest in the world, and according to new research, the third oldest).
7. There are about 5,000 ethnic groups in the world, but only around 200 states.

We are a nation with an ancient culture and history. In this region, we are the only people who have neither lost their religion nor their ethnic identity despite numerous invasions.
