Eastwind Horse Transport is a professional horse transportation company established in 2008. Recently, Eastwind has moved homebase from Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada to Rimbey, Alberta, Canada. Starting in Janaury 2023, Eastwind is shifting gears from mainly long distance hauls into a more niche market. I will be offering more specialized shipping services for charter bookings, quarantine hau

ls, shuttle service to larger companies, emergency vet, more local Alberta and the odd distance trip to BC or SK. Eastwind Horse Transport offers an honest, experienced and reputable service with over 30 years in the horse industry. Single standing tie stalls or small box stalls are available with full front gates and dividers to the floor.

The great debate. GMC, Ford or Ram.

I had a GMC years ago and a lighter duty Chev. Nice trucks and super comfy but not work horses.

Fords....people seem to like the new ones but Ive not had one. All I know is with my bodyshop background, the aluminum panels were a pain to repair / replace. Ive also heard about long wait times for mechanical parts. But some folks swear by their Ford. They look nice!

I just bought my 4th Ram truck. I know these trucks well. Their strong points and weak ones.

The new 2026 comes with a newly designed 6.7L High Output Cummins and a TorqueFlite 8 speed transmission. Ive put 8000km on it in 5 weeks. This truck is a beast! It drives nice, shifts smoother then the Aisin and is super quiet. I feel how much power the HO engine has and will never use it to its full potential. This truck has bucket seats and my back is much better then with my old bench seat.

Will be interesting to see the good, bad and ugly about the newly designed Ram. The headlights still suck and will require after market bulbs 😅

In this business, the first question is almost always, "How much?"

Budget matters, but I always wish the first question was about safety, standards, and setup. It's all relative.

I’m not saying I’m better than someone operating with a basic stock trailer. But my rates reflect a completely different level of operation. You are paying for top-tier, commercial-grade equipment, NSC standards, proper insurance, and nearly two decades of professional hauling experience. Every dollar goes directly back into maintaining those legal, above-board standards.

When I ask a million questions, it’s because details make all the difference. I need to know if your horse requires a box stall, extra load time, or needs to use the rear ramp rather than the side.

Furthermore, when I decline a route or ask to be met, it isn’t laziness—it’s regulatory and ethical. I will not compromise my legal drive hours or put unnecessary miles on the horses already on board.

The maintenance of the equipment is never compromised - just talk to the folks that maintain my truck and trailer. There alot of hidden costs in operations that most folks do not think of.

Comparing a commercial carrier to backyarders, illegals, or "private" rides for a cheap rate isn't comparing apples to apples. And NEVER send money upfront. The scams look incredibly real, and a "better deal" often ends in a devastating lesson. When it comes to your horses, standard care just isn't enough.
