A relocated possum will die.

When a possum is moved somewhere, the bush, a park, he has to find a home and food and the possums that are already living there will not allow this: those things are their life sources and they will fight for them, relentlessly. A moved possum has no shelter, no food and is in a completely strange place. He is crossing unfamiliar roads, lost, hungry and homeless. Already distressed from being trapped and suffering confusion and fear, he will starve, get run over and is easy prey for predators. If those things don’t get him, the stress and anxiety, will. He will just die.

And that is what happens to nine out of ten relocated possums.

Please don’t move a possum away from his home area. It will kill him. Very, very, few survive.

Working on Our Community Transport — Together
Finding solutions as a community, especially when rising petrol costs are putting pressure on so many

Today I reached out to councillors across Bass Coast and South Gippsland to begin a positive, community‑focused conversation about the transport challenges many locals are facing right now.

With petrol prices rising, a lot of people are feeling the pressure, and regional communities like ours feel it even more because we have fewer transport options. VLine is a great service, but the timetable doesn’t always match medical appointments, specialist visits, shift work or essential travel. I hear these stories every week from residents who call me needing help to get to appointments, and it is clear that many people are doing it tough.

This isn’t political. It’s about people. It’s about making sure our community can access the care, connection and support they need without added stress.

I have invited councillors to join a round table discussion so we can explore ideas together. This is about working as a regional community should, listening, sharing and finding practical solutions that support everyone. No blame and no negativity. We cannot change the past, but we can move forward together.

If you have experienced transport challenges, whether for medical care, work, essential services or social connection, you are welcome to share your story publicly or privately. Real experiences help guide the conversation in the right direction and show what is happening on the ground.

Moving forward will take all of us, but if we keep the conversation respectful and focused on solutions, we can make a positive difference for our community.
