It was a pleasure to attend the one day symposium on micromobility and tourism, hosted by The University of Queensland. We heard from a range of impressive speakers including;

Micro-mobility plays an important part in the tourism industry. It's encouraging for academia, industry and government to come together to discuss amongst other things; regulation, human behaviour, future planning, operating successful business, data accuracy and standards, infrastructure requirements, trends in tourism in Australia and whether the e-scooter is simply transport or whether it is, in fact, the tourism experience.

Most encouraging for me was the genuine sense of collaboration in the room and the desire for Academia to help operators and regulators move forward - suggesting questions such as "What problems, as operators, do you have which we, as researchers, could help solve?"

Brilliant to meet new folks and catch up with interstate colleagues who I hadn't seen for a while too.

It is no surprise that micro-mobility has been growing rapidly in popularity over the last few years. Cities around the world are recovering from the impacts of COVID-19, the growing climate change impacts, and the rising costs of living. People are travelling again, and the world is slowly getting back to normal.

However, the potential for micro-mobility to tap into the tourist market, directly through accommodation providers, is yet to be fully explored.

We were thrilled to be interviewed by (page 62-63) about our views on how micro-mobility can enhance the guest experience for accommodation providers - whilst at the same time, fuelling economic growth for our local economy and tourism.

Sustainability in the business world is essential to achieving growth and satisfying customers. Increasingly, consumers seek out green businesses and pay more for eco-friendly products and services. According to a report by Unilever, one in three consumers prefer sustainable brands, and the travel industry is taking note.

It is wonderful to be working with progressive and who also have bold sustainability goals and who appreciate that time is precious for their guests.

We have no doubt e-Scooters (and micro-mobility) is here to stay but in a world full of negative press, we have been presented with massive challenges in order to obtain a license to operate with the appropriate protections in place for our business and our customers. They're not insurmountable but it has made us want to quit, several times, and certainly reflect on our journey. It's at the most challenging, darkest parts of your journey where staying true to your core values and mission really pays dividends.
